When it’s not a piece of cake to bake a pretty cake- Rainbow cake edition
Depression and anxiety require a very large tool box to handle. Sometimes crafting of some sort soothes, sometimes the very idea makes me want to scream.
But when you’re in the mood to distract yourself and you have the energy to do it, baking and decorating a boxed cake is a great way to make art that you can zone out to, then eat later. If baking, crafting, or art helps you, please steal any ideas I post.
As always, i’m going to advocate for you using 1-the cheapest and 2-the easiest method of making this cake. Baking to relieve anxiety is not the same as baking to sell or baking for a function. Regardless of the excuse that gets you out of bed to bake the thing, use the experience to your benefit in any way you can.
The point is enjoying this. Remember it is something for you to have fun with, not for anyone else. Take your time, take breaks, drink some tea, don’t rush. I also suggest wearing head phones and listening to your favorite music for an extra mood boost/ escape while you work.
If you have more money and don’t mind spending it as opposed to mixing frosting you can also totally do this with premade, premixed colorful icing to work with. Pillsbury sells pink, red orange, green, blue and purple. Betty Croker makes a yellow one that is lemon flavored, but I haven’t seen any other yellow pre-colored frosting.
